Workforce Diversity

Georgetown is firmly committed to a culture of diversity and inclusion.  To this end, Georgetown strives to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Hand-in-hand with these commitments, and its receipt of federal contracts, Georgetown is a federal government contractor subject to Executive Order 11246, and its implementing regulations.  The Executive Order requires that government contractors “take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.”  As stated in its Affirmative Action in Employment policy, diversity, equity, and inclusion are an integral part of building great institutions of higher learning and are critical to Georgetown University’s mission and values. Two of the founding principles upon which the University was established are community in diversity and social justice.

The Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Affirmative Action (IDEAA) has provided resources for diversifying Georgetown’s workforce in a manner that is consistent with the university’s mission:

Our approach to recruitment and opportunities for advancement are pursued consistent with our federal obligations and regulatory requirements of the United States Department of Labor and United States Department of Education as promulgated by Title VII, of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and the American with Disabilities Act, among other such laws.

In accordance with 41 C.F.R. § 60-300.41 and 41 C.F.R. § 60-741.41, Georgetown University’s Affirmative Action Program is available for review by any Georgetown employee, or by any Georgetown applicant for employment, upon request.  The Affirmative Action Program may be reviewed, by appointment, at: M-36 Darnall Hall, 37th and O Streets, N.W., Washington D.C. 20057, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on days when the University is open.
