Viewpoint on the Passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

By Rosemary Kilkenny, Vice President, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer

The Honorable Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg AKA the Notorious RBG fought the good fight and ultimately lost her battle to pancreatic cancer. She was a brilliant jurist, a great teacher, a champion of women’s rights and social justice, and became a cultural icon. She loved Georgetown and frequently made the annual pilgrimage to our Georgetown University Law Center to welcome first year law students – a tradition that she observed for many years. She loved our students and they loved her back.

We mourn her passing and recognize her as an outstanding, compassionate and most committed crusader for justice to ever sit on the United States Supreme Court. She also was the great defender of the Constitution and fought fervently for immigration rights, voting rights and healthcare and was a champion for justice of all people in her passionate quest to ensure the rights and dignity for all citizens. The nation has lost a truly inspirational leader. May she rest in peace.
